Lucknow stands apart not only on the grounds of carrying a prodigious legacy of meritocracy, cultural pluralism and collectivism, but also for nurturing an intellect driven social system that strives for excellence in terms of teaching, research, innovation and extension. Established in the year 1920 for teaching Arts, Science, Commerce, Medicine and Law in the borrowed premises of different academic institutions, the university has today metamorphosed into a mammoth nucleus of education with 07 faculties segregated into 47 departments and 17 institutes in two campuses spread over 219 acres along with over 545 associated colleges in five districts of Uttar Pradesh. The University houses both academic blocks and facility centres namely the Tagore Library, Cyber Library, Dean Students’ Welfare, HRDC, University Data Resource Centre, Central Facility for Computational Research, 17 Hostels, Gymnasium, Day Care Canter, Residential Complexes, and more.

The University of Lucknow has secured an important place in many prestigious rankings of the country and abroad including QS, Nature Index, TIMES Higher Education, EduRank, UniRank, SCImago, UniRank, and NIRF Ranking since January 2020. Moving the university towards attainment of VMGO (Vision, Mission, Goal, and Objectives) for academic excellence, various strategic initiatives were taken to ensure our responsiveness to the changing demands in academics. In pursuit of addressing the call and developing its students, the university has designed its system not just to strengthen the intellectual quotient of the students but also their emotional and spiritual quotient. University of Lucknow also recognizes the responsibility it bears towards its stakeholders, particularly, the students and the society at large. Student centricity serves as the north star in the campus as it guides the decisions of both the administration and academia alike. We aim at offering our students the best of the learning opportunities with the help of contemporary curriculum design, industry interaction, research, innovation and infrastructure. Among several notable initiatives is the implementation of New Education Policy in letter and spirit at its Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Ph.D. program with incorporation of the Choice Based credit system, inter departmental and intra departmental credit transfers, flexible entry and exit, freezed and open electives, credited and non-credited value-added courses, online learning, internship, dissertation and more. As New Education Policy enhances the education and employment prospects of students in the global milieu, University of Lucknow is swiftly moving towards the internationalization of its education by entering into agreements with various international academic/research institutions for student and faculty mobility, joint research projects and other forms of knowledge transfer. University of Lucknow has implemented new ordinances for all its programs in the wake of the changes proposed in New Education Policy 2020.

In its path to create an ecosystem that nurtures innovation and contributes to holistic development of students, the university has implemented many initiatives through Student Centric schemes like Karmyogi, Karmodaya, Chatra Kalyan, Shodh Medha, Arpan, Samvardhan, VC Care Fund, Meritorious Student Council, OPD, and TREE are some unique endeavours undertaken by the University for inclusivity. Moreover, Happy Thinking Lab, Open Gymnasiums and Yoga centre take care of well-being of the university students and employees.

The University serves its community stakeholders by engaging and enriching social-connect of the university through drives and campaigns which not only raise awareness but also reaches the people. Social concerns encompass campaigns on health and hygiene of girls, distribution of sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators in schools and colleges, interactions and conversations to promote development initiatives of the government and support in its implementation especially in adjoining rural belt, immunization camps, mask bank and food distribution during COVID 19 pandemic, and sensitizing community on environmental and ecology related challenges.

Education 4.0 lined up with the industrial revolution aims at transforming education with use of advanced technology and automation. The NEP 2020 calls for leveraging advantages of technology through ICT based educational initiatives to optimize its use in meeting challenges of quality education.
