Mahmudabad Hall was built in the early years of the establishment of University of Lucknow. There are one hundred and eighty rooms and two common rooms for students. Many famous personalities resided in this Hall. Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the ninth president of India resided here from 1936-40 as well as renowned physician Dr. Giri Lal Gupta. A Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Institute of Democracy and Dr Giri Lal Gupta Institute of Public Health were established in the new campus of the university in their honor.

The Hall provides all facilities for students like well furnished rooms, washing machine, geysers, recreation rooms with television and indoor games like carom, chess etc. The Hall has volley ball and badminton court and a very large campus for the students to live in an environment friendly atmosphere. A central mess situated close to the Hall provides meals for the boys in a clean atmosphere.
